چکیده

Distributed real-time applications share a group of processors connected by some local area network. A rigorous and sound methodology to design real-time systems from independently designed distributed real-time applications is needed. In this paper, we study a distributed real-time system design scheme using CBS-based end-to-end scheduling. The scheduling scheme utilizes CBS to allocate both CPU shares and network bandwidth to a distributed real-time application when it arrives at the system. Our proposed solution uses the same scheduling paradigm for both resources. In this way, we believe the system can have a more consistent scheduling objective and may achieve a tighter schedu-

SEW: A Toolset For Design and Analysis of Distributed Real-Time Systems

In this paper, we describe a toolset for performance-based design and analysis of distributed realtime systems. The toolset is based on our design methodology, denoted Distributed Pipeline Scheduling [6, 7], that provides a set of rules that an engineer can follow to design near-optimal, distributed real-time systems with fully predictable, end-to-end performance properties. The methodology pro...

A Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study

This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...

An Engineering Approach to Decomposing End-to-End Delays on a Distributed Real-Time System

In this paper we propose an adequate engineering technique for decomposing end-to-end delays in distributed real-time systems. Our technique greatly sim-pliies real-time system design process by turning a global distributed scheduling problem into a set of single processor scheduling problems with local deadlines. The deadline decomposition is done using critical scaling factor 4] as a schedula...

Formal Verification of Distributed Preemptive Real-time Scheduling

The application of component middleware in missioncritical systems introduces new challenges for distributed real-time embedded (DRE) system developers such as the safe composition of components to ensure end-to-end predictability. Model-based analysis provides a way to evaluate design alternatives with respect to functional specifications and the target platform. This paper introduces a semant...

Design optimisation of cyber-physical distributed systems using IEEE time-sensitive networks

In this study the authors are interested in safety-critical real-time applications implemented on distributed architectures supporting the time-sensitive networking (TSN) standard. The on-going standardisation of TSN is an IEEE effort to bring deterministic real-time capabilities into the IEEE 802.1 Ethernet standard supporting safety-critical systems and guaranteed quality-of-service. TSN will...
